windows

Although we have much to thank houses for, they are also, in a way, our prisons. By constantly staying inside we tend to become slovenly and out of shape. The window is, for this reason, a miraculous concept. Connecting the outside world with that of your most private rooms, the window’s role is to allow light to enter (and eyes to wander outdoors.) This is why many modern living spaces employ the “glass wall”— a window so large it basically encompasses an entire façade of some properties.

The window can be an ornamental object. Many gorgeous places of worship, for example, owe their beauty to the stained glass window. There is actually no need for glass in many a window—some Japanese bamboo models contain none at all (they are simply designed to let light through.) The jalousie window, named after the French word for “jealous,” is another example of the way these objects interact with art and culture.

Choosing the right window style for your home can be a difficult process to say the least—there are so many choices to be made if you are considering replacing yours. The double and even triple-paned window (also known as an “insulated” window) is quite common these days—it allows your house to retain heat (or cold) so that your air-conditioning need not over-work itself.

Installing a window—or even a whole set of windows—is a difficult job. Realistically, it is best to leave this effort to professionals. Make sure to get an estimate of how much the required job will cost you before the contractors start—you may regret it if you get an astronomical bill unexpectedly.

Once your home is basking in light and allowing its owners to see the world outside it is time to pat yourself on the back for your successes.
